Judge Vincent C. Crawford has dedicated 25 years of service to the citizens of DeKalb County. He currently serves as Chief Judge of DeKalb County Juvenile Court for the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit.
With more than 15 years of judiciary leadership, Judge Crawford aspires to continue his fight for justice as Superior Court Judge in DeKalb County, Division 3.
For the last 5 years, Judge Crawford has been a member of the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council subcommittee on "Youth Equity and Justice Reform." His work on the committee is to find ways to keep youth in the community as an alternative to incarceration.
Crawford is currently a member of Georgia Council of Juvenile Court Judges, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the American Judges Association, the DeKalb Bar Association, and the past President of the DeKalb Lawyers Association.
He was honored by his alma mater, Florida A&M University, on October 15, 2019 where he led a lecture series and workshop for the School of Social Science.
Vincent C. Crawford started his legal career in 1990 as a Staff Attorney for Georgia Legal Services representing indigent clients with federal benefits claims and women in divorce proceedings who were victims of domestic violence.
In 1993, Vincent C. Crawford began his career as a prosecutor with the Richmond County District Attorney’s Office and as a Deputy Chief of the violent crimes division.
Vincent C. Crawford was hired by District Attorney J. Tom Morgan to join the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office in April of 1995 and served on the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office trial team for 2 years.
In April 1997, Vincent C. Crawford began his solo practitioner career in areas of domestic, juvenile, and criminal law. He served as Public Defender for the City of Decatur.
On February 27, 2005, Vincent C. Crawford was appointed to the position of Associate Magistrate Judge for DeKalb County.
Judge Vincent C. Crawford was sworn in as ssociate Juvenile Court Judge for DeKalb Juvenile Court on March 24, 2006.
In 2013, Judge Vincent C. Crawford was appointed to the position of Full Judge for DeKalb County Juvenile Court and began sitting by designation in Superior Court.
In 2007, Vincent C. Crawford helped establish the DeKalb Alphas Mentoring Initiative (DAMI), a youth mentoring program administered by the Nu Mu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Crawford served as Director of Educational Services and Curriculum of DAMI for 11 years.
Crawford's leadership included developing a curriculum for program participants to follow as an aid to their educational and personal development. Since 2007, Judge Crawford has seen several of the young men attend and finish College.
Vincent C. Crawford coached Redan High School Mock Trial teams for Georgia Mock Trial Competitions from 2008 to 2011.
Judge Crawford serves as Head Judge in Georgia and a National Judge for the National Physique Committee (NPC). He is also a Judge with the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).
Chief Judge Vincent C. Crawford graduated with honors from Florida A&M University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science.
Crawford was the first FAMU student invited to study at the Ralph Bunch Summer Institute held at Southern University and Louisiana State University.
Vincent C. Crawford received his law degree with special recognition for trial advocacy from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 1990. While in law school, he interned with the National Criminal Defense College for three years.
Vincent C. Crawford's commitment to public service began with his first law school internship with Georgia Legal Services. After his second year of Law School, Crawford earned an internship with the Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office.
Both internships would mold his interest in using his legal degree to serve the community.
